SUN VALLEY IS SEEKING PARK VOLUNTEERS The Sun Valley General Improvement District operates the Sun Valley parks and pool and is seeking area residents, groups and organizations to volunteer at the parks. Assistance is needed to help keep the parks safe and clean, removing graffiti, assisting with special events and/or providing educational programs. Volunteers can give as much time, or as little, but any time volunteering is needed and greatly appreciated by the District and the community. Call (775) 673-2220 for more information |

The Sun Valley General Improvement District (SVGID) is considering the creation of a new salaried position, which would be a Park Supervisor, whose primary duty may be to write grants. Due to the semi-controversial nature of the issue, it was decided to postpone this matter in order to have the full board present. In the meantime, General Manager, Darren Price may form an Ad Hoc committee to further evaluate the need and/or benefit. |

SUN VALLEY AND THE RENO BIGHORNS The Sun Valley General Improvement District and the Reno Bighorns have teamed up for a “Sun Valley Night with the Reno Bighorns.” The game night is planned for Friday, January 20, 2012 with the fun starting at a pregame Family Fun Fest beginning at 4:00 p.m. with tip-off at 7: oo p.m. A percentage of ticket sales will benefit the parks and recreation programs in Sun Valley. The Fun Fest activities include a bounce house, face painting, poster making and lay ups and pictures on the court. There will also be a post-game concert by the band “I Am They,” from Carson City. Sun Valley will hold a raffle with prizes including a Kindle Fire. Tickets are available for purchase night of the game at the Reno Events Center Box Office by mentioning Sun Valley Night promotion. SUN VALLEY HONORING VETERANS |

This Veteran’s Day, Friday November 11, 2011, Washoe County Senior Services and the Sun Valley General Improvement District will celebrate the day by honoring veterans with an event at the Sun Valley Neighborhood Center, 115 West 6th Avenue, from 1 pm until 3 pm. Several activities are planned including a BBQ with hot dogs and hamburgers and refreshments. The public is invited and admission is free. The event is funded by a grant received from Generations United, the 2010 MetLife Foundation/Generations United award that was awarded in 2010 to Washoe County Senior Services. SUN VALLEY HALLOWEEN TEEN DANCE |

Sun Valley’s annual Halloween Teen Dance will be held Thursday October 27, 2011 at the Sun Valley Neighborhood Center located at 115 W. 6th Avenue, Sun Valley. The dance will begin at 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm for ages 12 to 15 years old. The evening includes a live DJ, $1 Pizza and 50 cent soda. Costumes are required for entry; advanced ticket purchase $3, and admission at the door is $5. Only 300 tickets will be sold.
