Commissioner Bonnie Weber's
Open Letter - June 11, 2007

Spring is here again, and it’s time to head outside. I want to take a moment to thank and congratulate everyone who participated in the Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup, on May 12th. Not only did we cleanup more trash this year than last year, our open spaces are looking great! I do want to remind you that we must all continue to work together to keep our neighborhoods clean. It’s especially important to keep our properties clear of weeds and debris as we see fire season is already here.

Coffee and Conversation
Since 2004, I have made it my goal to offer one day a month for my constituents to come out and talk about what is going on in all of our communities. During this time, we have had the opportunity to have guests such as Washoe County Manager Katy Singlaub, Reno Councilman Dave Aiazzi, Lezlie Porter from the Washoe County School Board, Sarah Chvilieck, Washoe County Park Commissioner, community activist Neal Cobb, and Jack Lorbeer of RTC. We are going to break this summer to gear up for the fall. We will meet September 15th, 10:00 am at the North Valleys Regional Park.

Some very exciting things are happening in your neighborhood:

  1. Washoe County's weed abatement vehicle is out and about spraying weeds in our communities. This is important to help keep our communities clear of invasive weeds and help limit our fire danger.
  2. Washoe County parks are gearing up for summer…
    1. Sun Valley - The ring trail is planned for around and above the Sun Valley basin is moving forward and the pool is getting ready for our warm summer days.
    2. North Valleys – Swan Lake, the hidden treasure of the North Valleys, is ready and waiting for summer exploring in Lemmon Valley off of Lear Blvd. The Sierra Sage Golf Course, located in Stead, is always great for a family outing, and the North Valleys Regional Park is a great place for the kids to play.

June 23rd is Get to Know Your Neighbor Day. Communities all around Washoe County will gather to help build a stronger neighborhood by getting to know your neighbors. If you are interested in joining or starting an event please contact (775) 852-7123 or visit www.itstimereno.com.

July is Artown. I hope you will take advantage of the great activities planned throughout our area during the month of July. Please see www.renoisartown.com or call (775) 322-1538 for more information and a schedule of events.

I hope you will all continue to work with your Citizen Advisory Board (CAB) members to bring important issues to the table. The CAB meeting information can be found at www.washoecounty.us. I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
 Bonnie Weber
